Before you fish

Fishery Rules

These rules are in place to protect our fish, wildlife and fellow anglers. Thank you for helping us look after Woodlands Fishery.

General Site Etiquette

  • Check in & pay at the shop on arrival.
  • Ash & Hawthorn are adults only (16+).
  • Under 16s must be supervised by an adult (18+).
  • No driving on grassed areas.
  • Dogs must be kept on a lead and cleaned up after.
  • BBQs must be raised off the ground.
  • Alcohol is permitted, but anti-social or drunken behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • No drugs permitted on site.
  • Dispose of rubbish in the correct bins.
  • Respect other anglers, wildlife and the environment.
  • Aerators may operate during periods of low oxygen.
  • The bailiff’s decision is final.

General Fishing Rules

  • Rods must not be left unattended.
  • No braided mainline.
  • All rigs must be fish-safe and capable of releasing the lead if the mainline breaks.
  • No fixed leads or elasticated feeders.
  • Keepnets only with prior permission.
  • No carp in keepnets.
  • Unused bait must not be thrown into the lake.

Fish Welfare Rules

  • All nets, slings and unhooking mats must be disinfected before use.
  • Fish care spray must be used on hook holds and visible sores and damage.
  • All fish must be returned safely.
  • Do not handle fish with towels or cloths.
  • Always remain low to the ground when handling or photographing fish.
  • Never stand while holding a fish.
  • Any angler causing unnecessary harm or distress to fish may be asked to leave without refund.

Bait Rules

  • Boilies only on Hawthorn Lake.
  • No imitation (plastic or rubber) baits.
  • No nuts or nut-based particles.
  • Please use feed bait responsibly.
  • No dog or cat food.

Night Fishing Rules

  • No movement of vehicles after dark.
  • Bivvies only, tents are only permitted on the touring pitches.
  • No retaining fish overnight.
  • BBQs must be positioned safely away from bivvies.

Help Protect the Fishery

  • Please report any damaged, distressed or dead fish to a member of staff immediately.
  • Please report any damaged pegs, platforms or fishery equipment.
  • Please retrieve any lost line or tackle where it is safe to do so.
  • Please report any unsafe behaviour or rule breaches to a member of staff.
  • Do not damage trees, shrubs or other vegetation.
  • Please leave your peg as you would like to find it.
  • Respect the fishery, its wildlife and fellow anglers so everyone can enjoy their visit.
